1) How do you choose the vehicles you sell?

We dig deep into every vehicle's history to rule out any vehicle with damage, or salvage history. The majority of our vehicles are CARFAX Certified 1 Owners with low miles. We also focus on vehicles from the West Coast to avoid issues caused by salty roads. Any vehicle that doesn't meet our standards gets sold at auction - not to you. Vehicles must also pass a rigorous inspection process, much like Certified Pre-Owed vehicles undergo as well as detailed reconditioning to be sold at By Design Auto.

2) What tools do you have to help me find the right vehicle for me and my budget?

There are several tools to help you find and buy your next vehicle. You can use our finance calculator to estimate a budget, or get pre-qualified to help you know which inventory meets your actual budget. You can also drop by any time or schedule an appointment to get a free trade-in offer for your current vehicle, which can be applied to your down payment. In addition to our great online tools, our people are ready to answer any questions you have.  If you don't see the vehicle you're looking for, just let us know!  We have access to over 10,000 vehicles at any given time through various lease returns, trade ins, & auctions.  We can make finding you're dream vehcile a dream come true.

3) If I find a vehicle I like online, can I see it in person before I make a decision?

Yes. You deserve to have total confidence in your decision before you purchase a vehicle. Every vehicle you see online is located at By Design Auto and can be seen in person and test driven prior to buying.

4) Do I need to make an appointment to browse vehicles at the store?

You never need an appointment to browse vehicles at By Design Auto. At By Design Auto, we believe in low prices and high volume, so our inventory is always changing.  We highly recommend calling ahead to make sure the vehicle you are interested in is still available.

5) How do I schedule a test drive?

You can pick the vehicle you're interested in for a specific appointment time online or by phone. Online, go to the vehicle's individual detail page. You will see either a "Schedule a Test-Drive" link. Choose that link and follow the prompts to select the date and time for your visit.

6) Where can I test drive?

7) Can I buy a vehicle online?

Absolutely! You can complete almost every aspect of a vehicle-buying transaction online. On your vehicle's individual detail page, you can:

8) What documentation do I need to buy a vehicle?

To complete your transaction, you may be required to provide any or all of the following:

Valid driver's license

Proof of insurance (required for all vehicle sales)

Proof of income

Proof of residence

Address variance (when the address on credit application is different than address on credit report)

Documentation not listed above may also be required. Your sales consultant will be able to tell you what documentation you will actually need.

9) When is my down payment due?

Your down payment is due at the time of purchase.

10) Can I use a credit card for a down payment?

We do accept credit cards for a portion of your down payments. We also accept cash, debit card, money order, cashier's check or personal checks that reflect your correct name and address.

11) Can I split my down payment into multiple payments?

Your down payment is separate from the amount you are choosing to finance, so it must be paid in full at the time of purchase.

14) Do I have to have insurance if I buy a vehicle?

Yes. All customers must show proof of insurance when buying a vehicle. You will either need to provide evidence of existing coverage or a VIN-specific binder. A binder is temporary insurance provided by an insurance company that covers you while your new policy is being created and issued.

15) Can I sell my vehicle to By Design Auto without buying a new one?

Yes, and our offer will be the same whether you're buying a new vehicle from us or not.

16) Do I need an appointment to get an offer on my vehicle?

No, you never need an appointment to get an offer for your vehicle. However, an appointment will ensure that we have you in and out in as little time as possible.

17) Can I get an offer for my vehicle online?

Trade-In offers can be provided online. We will need to see your car in person at By Design Auto before finalizing your offer.

18) How do you determine my offer?

We review current market conditions as well as your vehicle's specific year, make, model, mileage, and vehicle history report. We examine your vehicle's condition inside and out for major defects like frame or flood damage. We also test drive your car and check to see if the brakes and turn signals are working (among other things). If repairs are needed, we may adjust our offer accordingly. In regards to cleanliness, the long-term maintenance and care of your vehicle are what's most important in determining our appraisal offer.

19) What do I need to sell my vehicle?

Requirements can vary, but there are a few items you'll need for sure:

Your vehicle's title or payoff information. All titleholders should be present.

Valid and current registration.

Valid state-issued photo ID for all title holders.

All keys and remotes.

Please note that you don't need these things to get an offer for your vehicle, but if you think you plan to sell when you get your offer, you should come prepared with these items.

20) How do I get paid for my vehicle?

You will leave with payment in hand the same day you sell us your vehicle. Before attempting to cash your check, always check with your bank to see if they have a specific hold policy on deposits.

21) What if I owe more on my vehicle than the amount of your offer?

If your payoff amount is more than the offer for your vehicle, the difference is called "negative equity." In some cases, the negative equity can be included in your financing when you buy a new vehicle from By Design Auto. If not, we'll calculate the difference between your pay-off and our offer to you and you can pay By Design Auto directly. By Design Auto accepts cashier's checks, certified checks, cash, and debit cards.

22) Do you buy leased vehicles?

Yes! In most cases, you can sell your leased vehicle in almost the same way as any other financed one. We'll appraise your vehicle, then contact the leasing company for a payoff quote and process any equity you might have. Please note that some leasing companies will not allow you to sell the vehicle prior to the expiration of the lease. Also, be aware that your leased vehicle might not be eligible for trade-in sales tax credit. Check with your leasing company for complete details.

23) Does By Design Auto offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing through several finance sources, including 50 Credit Unions. Most of our customers' financing decisions are available in 15 minutes or less.

24) This is my first car purchase. Can I finance with By Design Auto?

Our finance sources accommodate most credit profiles, and every By Design Auto customer will enjoy the same level of care and exceptional customer service.

25) I don't have the best credit rating. Can I finance with By Design Auto?

26) Can I use a co-buyer?

Yes. You can add a co-buyer to your finance application.

27) I am financing somewhere other than By Design Auto. What do I need to provide?

If you already have financing through your bank or an outside lender, you will need to provide a voucher, check or other proof of financing. We'll help you with that process, give us a call and we will walk you through it.

28) Should I consider a By Design Auto extended service plan?

All cars can have unexpected repairs. Instead of paying full price for covered repairs, you can pay a deductible as low as $50 with Maximum coverage, which covers all of your car's major systems, and provides emergency roadside assistance, rental reimbursement, & nationwide coverage.

29) Am I required to purchase an extended service plan?

No, a service plan is entirely optional, but many By Design Auto customers choose a service plan for the peace of mind it brings to long-term used vehicle ownership.

30) Can a service plan be included in my monthly payment?

Yes, you can include a service plan in your monthly payment.

31) Can I purchase a service plan after I purchase a vehicle?

No, vehicle service pan is only available at the time you purchase your By Design Auto vehicle.

32) When is my first payment due?

You can select the first payment date that works best for you. It can be up to 90 days from your contract date.

33) What is "GAP" protection?

GAP stands for Guaranteed Asset Protection. With our coverage, you can rest easy knowing you're protected in the situation of vehicle loss. If your vehicle is declared a total loss due to an accident, theft, or natural disaster, you can protect yourself from the financial burden of the "gap" between the value of your vehicle and the balance on your loan.

34) What does GAP cover?

GAP coverage protects you by paying for the difference from your remaining loan balance and what the insurance company deems the value of your vehicle.

35) Do I have to have a down payment?

Having a down payment is always a good idea. It increases the equity in your vehicle and lowers the loan to value ratio, also known as the LTV. A down payment may be part of the approval criteria for financing your purchase. Be sure to speak with your Sales Representative about how much you plan to put down.

36) I'm nervous about buying a used vehicle, how do I know I am not getting a lemon?

We pride ourselves on doing things right. We understand that a vehicle is a big purchase, and we want to make sure the process is as transparent as possible. We have a CARFAX history report on our website for every of our vehicles - for free. The CARFAX provides valuable pre-purchase information about the vehicle.

37) What if I live out of state?

If you live outside of the state of Washington there will be additional paperwork that will need to be completed depending on the details of your purchase. We will need your current out of state driver's license plus a second form of proof of residency such as a utility bill, mortgage statement, cable bill, etc. Please feel free to contact us and we can walk you through the process & make it easy.  

38) What if I live out of the country?

If you live outside of the United States there will be additional paperwork that will need to be completed depending on the details of your purchase.
